Tooling Engineer
ROLE:
The Tooling Engineer will assist the sales and production departments working with customers to design castings and tools to meet customer needs. They will also assist the pattern shops with design, modeling, and construction methods of new tools including tooling build and design standards. The engineer will work with production departments on continuous improvement projects to reduce scrap and improve efficiency.
RESPONSIBILITES/DUTIES:
- Work directly with foundry tooling engineers on optimal molding pattern and core box layouts.
- Work directly with sample coordinators to improve problem jobs.
- Utilize 3D CAD software to design gating to achieve both plant and customer requirements.
- Assist CAM designer on the machining of gating.
- Understand the design and build of vertical mold patterns, core setters, Laempe and other core boxes.
- Generate build and assembly drawings for pattern shop. Answer any questions that may arise.
- Work with other pattern personnel to determine tooling rework strategies.
- Responsible for making recommendations in regard to process improvements as well as new technology.
- Train personnel as required.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Excellent problem solving and interpersonal communication skills.
- High attention to detail and organization.
- Skilled in blueprint reading and knowledge of GD&T practices and principles.
- Understanding of core boxes, cores, molding tooling, and their relationship to the finished product.
- Experience and understanding of the casting process including melt, molding, core making, shakeout, and mill room.
- Strong computer skills including:
- Employ critical thinking, logic and reasoning to troubleshoot and solve problems.
- Preferred Bachelors/ Technical Degree in Engineering or Related Field or Equivalent OTJ Experience.
