Tripp County is seeking a full-time Secretary.  The States Attorney secretary provides administrative, clerical, and legal support to the Attorney’s Office. This position ensures the efficient operation of the office by managing case files, preparing legal documents, coordinating schedules, and serving as a point of contact for the public, law enforcement, court officials, and other agencies.

What you'll get to do! 

  • Perform general office duties including answering phones, greeting visitors, processing mail, filing, and scheduling appointments.
  • Draft, type, and proofread legal documents, correspondence, pleadings, motions, and other court-related materials.
  • Maintain and organize confidential case files and records in accordance with county and legal standards.
  • Assist with preparing exhibits, discovery, and trial materials for attorneys.
  • Track court dates, deadlines, and hearings to ensure timely filings and attorney preparedness.
  • Coordinate communication between the County Attorney’s Office, law enforcement, court staff, and the public.
  • Enter, update, and maintain case information in electronic and physical filing systems.
  • Manage office supplies, equipment, and general administrative needs of the office.
  • Handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What we're looking for!  

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary coursework in legal studies, office administration, or related field preferred.
  • Prior experience as a legal secretary, paralegal, or administrative assistant in a legal or government setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology, procedures, and court systems desirable.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn specialized legal software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple deadlines, and work independently.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals, including the public, law enforcement, attorneys, and court personnel.
  • Strict adherence to confidentiality requirements.
  • Ability to work with confidential information and to meet and deal with the public in a friendly, helpful manner
