Position Summary
The Water Truck/Sweeper Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining company-owned water trucks or sweepers on active construction sites. This position supports site crews by maintaining dust control, cleaning paved and unpaved surfaces, and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety standards. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-minded, and experienced in operating heavy equipment in a construction environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Operate a water truck or street sweeper safely and efficiently on construction sites and access roads.

Fill, distribute, and apply water for dust suppression, compaction, and cleaning as directed.

Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance on assigned equipment (fuel, oil, tires, etc.).

Maintain accurate daily logs of equipment operation, mileage, and service.

Assist site crews with general labor and support as needed when equipment is idle.

Follow all site-specific safety procedures and traffic control requirements.

Communicate effectively with foremen, superintendents, and other crew members regarding site needs.
Required Qualifications

Valid CDL Class A or B with a clean driving record.

Minimum 1 year of experience operating a water truck, sweeper, or similar construction vehicle.

Ability to perform basic vehicle inspections and report mechanical issues promptly.

Must pass company-required drug screening.

Reliable transportation to and from assigned job sites.

Ability to work extended hours, including some weekends, depending on project schedule.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience working on heavy civil, industrial, or sitework projects.

Knowledge of dust control methods and environmental compliance standards.

Familiarity with GPS or telematics systems used in fleet operations.
Physical Requirements

Ability to sit, stand, and operate equipment for long periods of time.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions, often in active construction zones.
Work Environment

Work performed primarily on active construction sites with heavy equipment and vehicular traffic.

Frequent exposure to dust, noise, vibration, and changing weather conditions.

Proper PPE (hard hat, safety vest, boots, eye and ear protection) required at all times.
