I.        Job Overview and General Purpose

Provide equipment preventative maintenance and repair support to field operations as assigned. Strive to partner with operations as a resource to maintain operational equipment in accordance with manufacturer and company practices.

II.     Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The position is invested with the duty and authority to ensure that operations equipment is properly maintained, ensure that feedback is provided on operator maintenance deficiencies when necessary, and that safety or operational deficiencies are repaired in a timely manner so that the impact to equipment downtime is minimized. Maintain a preventative maintenance schedule for all assigned equipment. Complete preventative maintenance.

  1. Preventative Maintenance

  • Work with operations to devise a plan to perform preventative maintenance at a time that does not impact operations.
  • Perform the preventative maintenance activities.
  • Visually inspect equipment during preventative maintenance for DOT, and safety items per work order checklist.
  • Visually inspect equipment for signs of operator performed maintenance. Report any deficiencies. 

III.   Key Organizational Relationships (Non-reporting)

  • Field Supervisor The field supervisor for the assigned area is the primary customer. The field supervisor will assist in prioritizing, will schedule work activities including hours.

  • Field General Foremen The General Foremen are also primary customers within the assigned area. General Foremen will be the contact for maintenance scheduling and will be the contact. The General Foremen will respond to operator maintenance issues.

  • Foremen The field lube technician will work with foremen on maintenance as assigned by the Supervisor or General Foreman

 IV.   Supervisory Responsibilities

         Manages employees assigned to assist by the field supervisor:

    • Hourly employees

         Assistant technicians or crew members acting as assistants as assigned by the Field Supervisor.

         Personal time management is required by this position.

    1. Equipment may not be available for Preventive maintenance under normal hours. Field lube technician must be available to perform maintenance when equipment is available.

    2. Jobs may require overnight stays in various locations. When at a location, as much service work should be done as possible before moving to the next location.

    3. Before closing work activities for the day/week all immediate issues should be addressed or status confirmed with the appropriate general foreman, work area should be cleaned as needed, trash and waste oil should be properly disposed of.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Penn Line Service policies and procedures that include, but are not limited to, training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining; addressing complaints; and resolving problems.

  • Education/Experience Work requires ability to follow instructions, record and log information generally acquired through a high school education. Knowledge of equipment preventive maintenance procedure.
  • Language skills Appropriate and effective interpersonal skills are necessary to effectively communicate with management, other employees, and vendors.
  • Driver License With current DOT medical card

VI.   Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or controls, such as the equipment function levers, equipment Preventive maintenance supplies; reach with hands and arms to pick up hand tools,  and talk or hear to converse at  jobsites, over the phone or with repair vendors.

The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and climb or balance within the normal course of a workday while performing job tasks. The employee is required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl when performing job tasks.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds to lift hand tools, Preventive maintenance supplies, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds of components.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus to work activities; distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception to operate a motor vehicle.

VII.    Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions when working in the field or traveling to and from job sites. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and risk of electrical shock while at those job sites.

. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally very loud when at the job site.
