About the Role
The Lowboy Operator is responsible for safely loading, transporting, and unloading heavy construction equipment to and from project sites using a lowboy tractor-trailer. This position plays a key role in supporting field operations by ensuring equipment is delivered on time, in good condition, and in compliance with DOT regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a lowboy tractor-trailer to transport heavy equipment (excavators, dozers, loaders, etc.) between company facilities and job sites.
- Safely load and unload equipment using appropriate tie-down and securement methods.
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections in accordance with DOT and company standards.
- Maintain accurate trip logs, load sheets, and equipment delivery records.
- Coordinate with project superintendents, dispatch, and equipment managers to schedule moves efficiently.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local transportation laws and safety regulations.
- Perform minor maintenance and cleaning of truck and trailer.
- Assist with other duties as assigned, including general yard or equipment support when not hauling.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of experience operating a lowboy or heavy-haul tractor-trailer in a construction environment.
- Valid Class A CDL with air brake endorsement and a clean driving record.
- Knowledge of load securement, weight distribution, and DOT regulations.
- Ability to safely load, chain, and unchain various types of heavy equipment.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Physical Requirements
- Must be able to climb on and off equipment and trailers.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Extended sitting, driving, and occasional overnight travel may be required.
Work Environment
This position works primarily outdoors on construction job sites and roadways, often around heavy equipment, uneven terrain, and varying weather conditions. Safety awareness and adherence to PPE requirements are critical.
