JOB SUMMARY: Assists with managing and enforcing S&D’s safety program, as well as federal, state, local and job-specific safety requirements. Investigates accidents, injuries, near-misses. Analyzes potential hazards and develops methods and trains to prevent hazard exposure, injuries and property damage.
REPORTS TO: Safety Manager
REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma, GED, or international equivalent (experience may be substituted for education).
- Valid Drivers License .
- At least two (2) years of work-related experience administering a safety program.
- Current First Aid/CPR Certification.
- Must be able gain access through background checks for local, state, and federal government projects.
- Completed OSHA 10-Hour and OSHA 30-Hour (PREFERRED: Instructor Certification for both Construction and General Industry).
- Effective oral and written communication skills. (PREFERRED: bilingual in Spanish/English).
- Able to walk, stand, bend, climb, crawl, stoop; be exposed to heights and tight/confined spaces; work in dusty areas; work in temperature extremes; be exposed to external elements (wind, rain, snow, etc.)
- Able to maintain confidential information.
- Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds rarely/occasionally.
- Familiar with MS-Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Internet Explorer.
- Able to work independently or in teams with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of EPA, NIOSH, ANSI (PREFERRED: DOT regulations, claims management).
RESPONSIBILITIES
Occupational Health & Safety Knowledge
- Designated competent person on Shapiro & Duncan job sites and customer locations.
- Conducts impartial investigation into a variety of incidents and recommends corrective action to prevent recurrence.
- Coordinates and conducts work area assessment, surveys and program evaluations to anticipate, determine, correct and/or mitigate the presence of hazardous conditions (noise, hazardous materials/environments, high light levels, confined space, etc.)
- Familiar with OSHA-29 CFR 1910 & 1926. (PREFERRED: Understanding of DOT regulations).
Process Compliance & Administration
- Promote the company safety culture by being a safety resource to the project.
- Maintains company’s drug testing program, including medical record retention.
- Partners with management and field leaders to correct safety issues, including potential discipline of staff.
- The incumbent performs job site inspections.
- Attend and present/facilitate jobsite meetings upon request.
- Generate training materials; present, facilitate and/or arrange training sessions in partnership with vendors and internal staff.
- Perform site inspections and written reports; prepare monthly reports for sites visited.
- Coach employees responsible for pre-task analysis and tool box talks to ensure they are completed effectively.
- Perform trend analysis for management.
- Provide new-employee health and safety orientations, and develop materials for these presentations.
- Recommends measures to protect workers from potential hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
- Act as company’s representative during OSHA or other compliance inspections.
- Perform miscellaneous duties as directed.
- Provides employees with training and certifications (when required) such as fall protection, rigging, equipment operations, confined space, silica, Haz-com, etc
- Perform incident review with team and injured employee.
- Participates in training/certifications.
