Clay County, South Dakota — Now Hiring a Deputy Treasurer
Clay County is seeking a detail-oriented, customer-focused professional to join our team as Deputy Treasurer. The starting wage for this role is $19.78 per hour.
Position Overview
As the Deputy Treasurer, you will play a key role in supporting the fiscal and investment operations of Clay County. Responsibilities include:

Providing excellent customer service at the counter, by phone, and through mail.

Processing motor vehicle transactions, tax payments, and real property inquiries.

Balancing daily receipts, preparing bank deposits, and creating daily and monthly financial reports.

Managing correspondence, filing, and maintaining accurate financial records.

Assisting with tax notices, delinquent accounts, and required state reporting.

Supporting elderly and disabled residents with tax-related applications.

Collaborating with other County departments to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required; post-secondary education preferred.

One to two years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge of general accounting principles and office procedures.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfort with technology.

Strong communication skills and exceptional attention to detail.

Ability to build and maintain positive professional relationships with the public and county staff.
Schedule & Work Environment

Full-time, Monday through Friday.

Occasional overtime may be required.

Ability to lift/move up to 25 pounds and perform the physical functions of general office work.
