Location:

The position will be remote home-based, with travel to the KSM Project site as required. Camp accommodations and transportation to site are provided by Seabridge Gold from Terrace BC to KSM Mine, Hwy 37, BC. Position Overview:

The Contracts Specialist is responsible for supporting the administration, execution, and compliance of contracts on the KSM Project. The role ensures that contracts are structured, negotiated, and managed in alignment with project objectives, regulatory requirements, and corporate policies. The position works closely with internal teams, including Project Controls, Engineering, Construction, Procurement, and Legal, as well as external contractors, consultants, and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities:

This role will manage, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Draft, review, negotiate, and administer construction contracts with contractors, consultants, and suppliers.
  • Provide expert guidance and interpretation of contract terms, obligations, entitlements, and risk allocation to project and site teams.
  • Support the development of tender and procurement documentation, bid evaluations, and contractor selection processes.
  • Monitor contractor performance and compliance with contractual obligations, including scope, schedule, cost, quality, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Support cost control and commercial management activities, including review and validation of progress claims, variations, and change events.
  • Apply quantity surveying principles to assess measurements, valuations, and commercial impacts of construction and earthworks activities.
  • Track and manage variations, change orders, claims, and disputes, ensuring timely identification, accurate documentation, and appropriate resolution strategies.
  • Provide commercial input into expenditure tracking, cost forecasting, and cost-to-complete assessments, in collaboration with project controls and site teams.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate contractual and commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle, including early warning of potential cost or schedule impacts.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date contractual and commercial records, correspondence, and reports to support governance, audits, and claims management.
  • Work closely with construction and site teams, including field engagement as required, to support delivery, validate quantities, and align commercial outcomes with site execution.
  • Facilitate effective communication between legal, project, engineering, procurement, construction, and finance teams regarding contract obligations and commercial matters.
  • Support contract closeout activities, including verification of deliverables, management of retentions, final account negotiations, and capture of lessons learned.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies, EPCM best practices, and applicable regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Provide ad hoc contractual and commercial advice to internal stakeholders to support informed decision-making and project success.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support project delivery and organisational objectives.

Education, Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will bring a proven track record of technical expertise, leadership, and collaboration, supported by the following qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Law, Business, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience in construction and commercial management.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience managing construction contracts, preferably within the mining, civil, or heavy industrial construction sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of construction contractual frameworks, including variations, claims, change management, and commercial risk management.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing, negotiating, administering, and closing out complex contracts with contractors, consultants, and vendors.
  • Proven experience in cost control and commercial management, including budget oversight, expenditure tracking, cost forecasting, and management of cost-to-complete and final outturn positions.
  • Solid background in quantity surveying, including measurement and valuation of works, assessment of progress claims, variations, and final accounts.
  • Experience supporting or delivering road construction and bulk earthworks packages and associated civil works, within brownfield or greenfield project environments.
  • Demonstrated field-based experience, working closely with project and site teams to validate quantities, assess productivity impacts, and manage commercial outcomes during execution.
  • Familiarity with mining project execution, including engineering, procurement, and construction phases.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, internal stakeholders, and external consultants in a delivery-focused environment.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate complex contractual and commercial matters to a broad stakeholder audience.
  • High standards of professional and ethical conduct.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), with strong Excel capability for cost and commercial analysis.
  • Experience working in cross-cultural environments and on large-scale mining or infrastructure operations.
  • Familiarity with project controls, cost management, and risk management systems and methodologies.
