The Parts Specialist reports directly to the shop manager and supports fleet and construction operations by maintaining, repairing, and inspecting vehicles, heavy equipment, and shop tools. This role helps minimize downtime by keeping equipment safe, reliable, and job-ready.
Responsibilities: Below are the essential duties and responsibilities of the position; other duties may be assigned as directed:
- Maintain accurate inventory levels for vehicle, equipment, and shop parts to support fleet and construction operations.
- Identify parts needs, receive, inspect, and verify incoming parts and materials to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with purchase orders.
- Work closely with mechanics and field personnel to identify correct parts for repairs, maintenance, and equipment servicing.
- Label, stock, and organize parts, tools, and materials to ensure easy access and efficient workflow.
- Maintain accurate records of parts usage, inventory levels, purchase orders, warranties, and returns.
- Ensure parts storage areas meet safety standards and maintain a clean, organized parts room and work area.
- Provide basic guidance to technicians and operators on parts availability, proper usage, and replacement options.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, drug test, and criminal background check
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required; technical school or trade certifications preferred
- Previous experience in parts management, inventory control, or supporting fleet vehicles, heavy equipment, or construction machinery
- Working knowledge of mechanical components and equipment systems (automotive, heavy equipment, or construction-related)
- Familiarity with parts catalogs, ordering systems, and inventory software
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to track inventory and identify discrepancies
- Ability to communicate clearly with supervisors, mechanics, vendors, and team members regarding parts needs and availability
- Ability to lift heavy parts, stand or walk for long periods, and work in various positions such as bending, kneeling, or climbing.
- Comfortable working in shop, yard, and field environments, including exposure to weather, noise, and construction conditions.
