Responsibilities: Below are the essential duties and responsibilities of the position; other duties may be assigned as directed:

  • Proper setting up of the screed and all electronics to ensure the equipment is being utilized properly and efficiently
  • Perform routine daily maintenance and proper cleaning of the screed and paver
  • Identify and report mechanical issues
  • Operate all controls of the screed and its electronics to ensure proper asphalt distribution
  • Constant monitoring of the consistent flow of material, mat thickness, slope, and smoothness of the asphalt that is being laid
  • Adjust screed height, angle, crown, strike-off, flow, and grade controls
  • Use automatic grade and slope control systems when required
  • Assist with other paving tasks, such as shoveling, raking and cleanup
  • Communicate and collaborate closely with the entire paving team
  • Ensure safe operation of machinery and compliance with all safety regulations
  • Have a safety-focused mentality:
    • Always ensure and promote a safe working environment
    • Enforce all company, OSHA and other applicable safety standards.
    • Report on any safety concerns to supervisor

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, a candidate would have the following:

  • 2-5 years of experience as an asphalt screed operator
  • Strong understanding of paving operations and equipment
  • Experience with grade and slope control
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to diagnose equipment issues
  • Have a strong attention to detail
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multiple tasks effectively and ensure accuracy
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work in a team environment
  • Ability to work overtime, nights and weekends as needed
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including exposure to construction sites and potential physical demands.
  • Ability to Lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
