Position Responsibilities:

  • You will operate various rollers to compact and smooth freshly laid asphalt during road construction and maintenance projects.  This includes ensuring that the asphalt is evenly distributed and meets required specifications.
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the roller to ensure it is in safe operational order.  Report any maintenance or repair issues immediately.
  • Use the roller to achieve the desired compaction and smoothness of the asphalt surface.  This involves making successive overlapping passes to ensure a uniform finish and prevent ridges from forming.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on the paver and other equipment.  This includes cleaning, lubricating and making minor repairs as needed to keep the machinery in good working condition.
  • Work closely with other construction team members, including foremen and junior operators, to ensure project requirements are met.  Effective communication is essential for coordinating tasks and ensuring safety on the job site.
  • Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment to include the wearing of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and participating in safety meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience operating heavy machinery, particularly asphalt rollers, is required.  Some positions may offer training for candidates with potential.
  • A basic understanding of heavy equipment operations and maintenance protocols are beneficial.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems and communication hand signals.
  • A willingness to operate not only the roller but a tamp or shovel when needed.
  • Strong work ethic and reliability
  • Ability to work night shift as required
  • Ability to work long hours when required

Work Environment:   Willingness to work 50+ hours a week, including out-of-doors under varying climatic conditions.  Job may require lifting and bending.  Noise level is high. Employee may experience occasional pressure due to multiple tasks and deadlines.
