Casella Construction is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Lead Heavy Diesel Technician to support, and guide our Maintenance Department at our Fort Edward, NY facility. In this role, you will take the lead on day‑to‑day shop activities, ensuring the safe, efficient, and high‑quality maintenance and repair of our fleet of heavy‑duty equipment and vehicles. This Day Shift Shop Technician operates Monday–Friday, Day Shift 6:00 AM – 4:00 PM at our Fort Edward shop.

This role combines hands‑on mechanical work with leadership responsibilities, including workflow coordination, repair planning, and clear communication with operators, supervisors, and other departments.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily shop operations, ensure work is prioritized, assigned, and completed safely and efficiently.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and training to mechanics and shop staff.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment.
- Support a positive, accountable, and collaborative team culture.
- Oversee and assist with troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs on fleet vehicles including Mack triaxle dump trucks, Kenworth T880/W900 tractors, and a variety of trailers (live floor, dump, lowboy).
- Ensure timely completion of preventative maintenance (PMs) and corrective repairs.
- Perform or support welding, fabrication, and hydraulic repairs when needed.
- Coordinate with the Service Coordinator and Operations to schedule equipment service with minimal operational disruption.
- Communicate repair status updates, timelines, and any issues that may affect production.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety standards and environmental regulations.
- Ensure and review accuracy pf recorded work performed in fleet maintenance software (repairs, parts, work orders, and labor).
- Training requirements, both in person and online, as needed or required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry heavy parts and tools (50+ lbs).
- Capable of standing, bending, kneeling, and lying in awkward positions for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in hot, cold, dirty, or noisy environments.
- Strong hand-eye coordination and grip strength.
- Ability to climb ladders and maneuver in tight spaces.
- Good vision and hearing (with or without corrective aids).
- Flexibility to twist, reach, and stretch during repairs.
- Must be able to squat, bend and work in confined areas for extended periods of time
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of Diesel engine repair and Tech work
- 1+ years of experience in a leadership and lead mechanic role
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must be 18 years or older
- Considerable knowledge in equipment maintenance and repair gained through formal training or on the job experience
- Must be able to handle major repairs
- Experience with both tractor and trailer PMs and repairs.
- Basic computer skills and knowledge
- Proficient in diagnosing and managing regular scheduled maintenance schedules
- Experience in welding and fabrication
- Hydraulic and Electrical system troubleshooting and repair
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently
- Must have own tools
Preferred Qualifications:
- Class A and Class B CDL desirable
- OSHA 10 Certification or ability to obtain certification
- Proficient in diagnosing and managing regular scheduled maintenance schedules

Hourly Hiring Range: $28.00/hr. - $36.00/hr.
This range reflects the base pay we reasonably expect to offer for this position at the time of posting, considering current market conditions and industry benchmarks.
