Job Description
Pillar Exterior Construction is seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and organized Installation Superintendent to lead field installation crews specializing in exterior façade and panelized building envelope systems. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who thrives in the field, understands complex exterior construction, and is excited to support innovative, prefabricated, and panelized construction methods.
This position requires nationwide travel and active involvement in all aspects of field execution, including safety, planning, productivity, cost control, scheduling, logistics, quality, and communication. The Installation Superintendent will lead by example, maintain high standards of workmanship, and represent Pillar Exterior Construction professionally on every project.
Successful candidates will demonstrate strong leadership skills, the ability to gain team commitment, and the discipline to hold crews accountable to safety, quality, and schedule.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate Pillar Exterior Construction subcontractors in the field (metal panels, waterproofing, sealants, cranes, deliveries, etc.).
- Lead installation crews to meet productivity goals and maintain project schedules.
- Enforce jobsite code of conduct and professionalism for traveling crews representing Pillar.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve field issues; escalate to engineering or management when required.
- Schedule, manage, and participate in jobsite inspections and interface with inspectors and general contractors.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit accurate daily field reports.
- Manage site logistics, including craning, rigging, access, and material handling.
- Identify and document field issues using measurements, photos, and written communication.
- Respond promptly to issues raised in meetings and emails or escalate when clarification is required.
- Understand, track, and interpret project schedules; monitor daily and weekly work progress.
- Recognize and eliminate jobsite hazards and unsafe work practices.
- Conduct jobsite safety meetings and promote an injury-free work environment.
- Participate in overall jobsite safety meetings with GCs and trade partners.
- Review, mark up, and comment on drawings, details, and shop drawings.
- Coordinate and manage crew travel logistics.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities
- General understanding of welding.
- Strong working knowledge of exterior skin systems and waterproofing assemblies.
- Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve complex field conditions.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, sections, details, and construction documents.
- Experience developing and communicating pre-task plans, JHAs, crane plans, and lift packages.
- Professional communication with general contractors, consultants, and trade partners.
- Strong listening and communication skills; proficient with tablets, computers, and mobile devices.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Dependable, adaptable, and able to meet deadlines in fast-paced field environments.
Education and Experience
- 10+ years of experience in metal stud framing, drywall, or exterior systems.
- Proven experience with:
- Layout and control
- Framing and hanging
- Fire-rated and STC assemblies
- Fire caulking and fire safing
- Experience supervising crews of 10+ workers.
- Experience with panelized construction systems or concrete formwork systems (layout, flying, setting, anchoring, bracing).
- Experience with leading-edge work.
- OSHA 10 & OSHA 30 required.
- Certified Rigging (must obtain within first 2 months if not current).
- First Aid & CPR certified (must obtain within first 2 months if not current).
- Experience with multi-story load-bearing framing systems (wood or cold-formed steel) is a plus.
- Experience with Bluebeam, Trimble, and Total Station is a plus.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.
