Schedule: Monday through Friday.  From 7:00am to 5:00pm, hours & days can vary based upon Owner/GC requirements and workload.

Elite Surface Infrastructure (ESI), based in Englewood, CO, is a leading self-performing civil contractor serving Colorado since 1998. ESI specializes in Underground Utilities, Milling, Asphalt, Paving, Grading, Concrete, and Earthwork for commercial, municipal, and federal projects.

Position Summary

The Vice President of Operations provides leadership and strategic direction for all operations across ESI's heavy civil construction portfolio. This role oversees project execution, operational excellence, safety, quality, and profitability while leading Directors, Production Managers, Project Managers, Project Superintendents, and field personnel. The VP of Operations is responsible for ensuring successful project delivery across ESI's self-performing disciplines: asphalt paving, concrete operations, earthwork & grading, utilities installation, and traffic control operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction for all operations across the organization
  • Oversee Directors of Operations, Directors of Construction, Production Managers, Project Managers, and Project Superintendents
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to quality standards
  • Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement across all disciplines
  • Develop and implement operational strategies to support company growth and profitability
  • Monitor project performance, production rates, and financial results Establish and

maintain safety culture and ensure compliance with all regulations Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic planning and business development

  • Lead operational planning for project execution and resource allocation
  • Ensure effective coordination and communication between field operations, project superintends and project management
  • Develop and mentor operations leadership team for succession planning
  • Review and approve major operational decisions and project strategies
  • Monitor and manage operational budgets, equipment utilization, and labor productivity
  • Foster strong relationships with clients, vendors, partners, and stakeholders
  • Champion innovation and adoption of new technologies and construction methods
  • Represent ESI in industry associations and client meetings

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related experience required
  • Experience: Minimum 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in heavy civil construction
  • Proven track record of managing large-scale construction operations and field teams
  • Strong financial acumen and experience managing P&L responsibility
  • Deep knowledge of heavy civil construction methods, equipment, and safety regulations
  • Excellent leadership, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills
  • Experience with self-performing contractors in multiple disciplines preferred
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills with clients and stakeholders
  • Ability to drive operational excellence and build high-performing teams
  • Must be able to commute or relocate within Colorado

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Pass background check and drug screening
  • Ability to wear PPE and work in varying indoor/outdoor environments
  • Strong attention to detail, communication, and ability to work under pressure

Physical Demands

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crawling, and material handling
  • Lift 10–50 lbs. frequently; up to 100 lbs. occasionally
  • Occasional climbing and overhead reaching
  • Continuous physical activity throughout workday
  • PPE required at all times on job sites
