Position Description:

We are seeking a skilled Fleet Mechanic to inspect, maintain, and repair company-owned pickups and SUVs. This position performs preventative maintenance, diagnoses mechanical and electrical issues, completes accurate work orders, and ensures vehicles are safe and operating at peak performance. The ideal candidate has strong experience with gasoline and light diesel engines, diagnostics, and drivetrain systems, along with a high level of attention to detail.

This role also offers long-term growth opportunities, including the potential to cross-train into heavy diesel and construction equipment maintenance for candidates interested in expanding their mechanical skill set.

Fleet Mechanics start work at 6:00am Monday through Friday and can expect 50-60 hours per week. Weekend overtime required as necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair company-owned pickups and SUVs.
  • Perform preventative maintenance services such as oil changes, tire rotations, and fluid checks on fleet vehicles.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and drivetrain issues using diagnostic tools and technical manuals. Escalate issues to manufacturer assistance hotline as necessary.
  • Complete work orders and maintenance records accurately and in a timely manner. Report hours worked on each piece of equipment accurately.
  • Operate and test repaired vehicles to verify functionality and ensure quality of repairs.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Automotive Mechanics Technology or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as an automotive or light truck mechanic may supplement a degree.
  • Strong knowledge of gasoline and light diesel engines, brakes, electrical systems, and diagnostics.
  • Able to demonstrate a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, follow direction, and work as part of a team.
  • Must own a set of basic mechanic tools.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to independently lift/carry and push/pull up to 50 lb.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend/squat, kneel, and twist on a frequent basis. Occasionally crawl.
  • Ability to perform overhead work, including reaching, lifting, and positioning tools or parts above shoulder height.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to climb ladders/stairs and maintain balance while performing work.
  • This position may require some sedentary duty.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • $21.81 to $39.36 per hour, based on experience. Overtime is paid after 40 hours per week.
  • 100% paid benefits, including health/dental/vision insurance premiums and pension dues, as provided by the Local 234 Operating Engineers.
