POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Pipe Layer to lead the installation of underground utilities, including water, sewer, and storm drainage systems. This hands-on role is critical to ensuring proper alignment, grading, and installation according to project specifications.
The ideal candidate will have experience with trench safety, utility layout, and working in a fast-paced construction environment. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to read plans or grades, and a commitment to safety and quality work.
YOUR ROLE
- Install pipe for storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains with precision and in accordance with job specifications.
- Set up pipe lasers and read grade stakes to maintain line and elevation requirements.
- Cut pipes to required lengths and bevel ends as needed.
- Align and position pipes in trench using hoisting equipment, hand tools, and manual labor.
- Connect and seal pipe joints using cement, glue, mechanical couplings, or rubber gaskets.
- Inspect previously installed pipes to ensure quality control and proper alignment.
- Backfill trenches around pipes and compact soil to protect pipe integrity.
- Coordinate with excavator operators and site crew to ensure a smooth installation process.
- Use trench boxes and follow safety procedures for working in confined spaces.
- Clean and maintain tools, equipment, and worksite cleanliness throughout each project.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU BRING
Education:
- High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid Texas Driver’s License is preferred.
- OSHA 10 Certification is a plus
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Experience:
- Minimum 1–2 years of pipe laying experience.
- Prior history in construction or general labor roles.
Experience (continued):
- Must be comfortable working with tools and doing physical work.
Skills and Abilities:
- Can follow directions and safety rules, and promotes compliance among field staff.
- Physically capable of lifting and handling pipe materials.
- Strong understanding of slope, grade, and trench alignment.
- Able to work in confined spaces and follow trench safety procedures.
- Speaks English and Spanish (or can help translate) – a big plus.
- Works well in teams and communicates clearly with the crew.
- Uses hand tools and pipe lasers with accuracy.
- Familiar with pipe bedding and backfilling procedures.
- Able to identify and correct grade discrepancies in real-time.
- Understands how to install gaskets, fittings, and connectors safely.
- Has reliable transportation to and from the job site.
- Keeps safety a priority and is willing to attend training and report issues.
SCHEDULE
This is a full-time, on-site position — no remote or hybrid options.
Typical Work Hours:
- Monday – Friday, starting as early as 5:00 AM and ending as late as 6:00 PM (Exact hours may change depending on the job or weather.)
- Typically 8-12 hour shifts
- You may be asked to work overtime or on Saturdays when needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This job involves a lot of moving, lifting, climbing, bending, and standing. You’ll work outside in the heat, cold, or rain depending on the day. You’ll also use tools and may operate equipment or vehicles.
