Quality Assurance Inspector Overview:

The Quality Assurance Inspector – Electrical is responsible for monitoring, inspecting, and documenting electrical installations on commercial and industrial construction projects to ensure compliance with project specifications, applicable codes (NEC, NFPA), and quality standards. Working under the direction of the QA/QC Manager, this role serves as the on-site quality checkpoint for electrical systems from rough-in through final commissioning.

Quality Assurance Inspector Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Inspections & Field Verification

  • Perform in-process and final inspections of electrical installations including conduit, wire/cable, panels, switchgear, transformers, lighting, grounding, and low-voltage systems
  • Verify installations conform to approved drawings, specifications, NEC, and applicable local codes
  • Conduct pre-pour inspections for embedded conduit and underground electrical systems
  • Witness and document functional testing, megger testing, and continuity checks
  • Inspect equipment installations for proper grounding, bonding, and labeling

Documentation & Reporting

  • Generate detailed inspection reports, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and punch lists using project management software
  • Maintain accurate daily logs, inspection records, and photographic documentation
  • Track open NCRs through resolution and verify corrective actions are completed
  • Review and mark up RFIs and submittals related to electrical scope

Coordination & Communication

  • Coordinate with electrical subcontractors, general contractor's superintendents, and AHJ inspectors
  • Attend pre-installation meetings, toolbox talks, and project coordination meetings as required
  • Communicate inspection findings clearly and professionally to field and project management teams
  • Support commissioning activities and coordinate with third-party testing agencies

Quality Assurance Inspector Qualifications:

Required

  • 3–5 years of electrical inspection, QA/QC, or journeyman-level electrical installation experience in commercial or industrial construction
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and NFPA standards
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, and specifications
  • Proficiency with inspection documentation tools (Procore, Bluebeam, or similar)
  • Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PP, Outlook)
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred

  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) 
  • Journeyman Electrician license or equivalent trade certification
  • NFPA 70E certification
  • ICC Commercial Electrical Inspector certification
  • NICET certification in electrical or fire alarm systems
  • Experience with industrial facilities, data centers, or healthcare construction

Quality Assurance Inspector Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to climb to heights more than 300 feet.
  • Overtime and overnight travel are required.
  • Must be able to lift to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to tolerate loud noises and temperature fluctuations.
