Performance Competencies & Responsibilities:

Construction Accounting & Job Costing

  • Partner with Project Managers to properly track costs by project, phase, cost code, and cost type and percentage of completion (POC)
  • Understand how labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs flow into Work in Progress
  • Provide cost analysis across the organization and individual projects
  • Provide monthly Contract Billing per project
  • Interpret Work in Progress schedules and understand revenue recognition rules specific to construction

 

Internal Payroll & Certified Payroll Management

  • Complete weekly internal payroll with accuracy and timeliness
  • Prepare and submit weekly certified payroll reports
  • Knowledgeable in prevailing wage requirements and multi‑state payroll
  • Manage job coded timecards and labor burden allocation
  • Ensure compliance with Davis Beacon, fringe benefits, and all reporting requirements

 

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Manage Accounts Payable, ensuring timely and accurate processing
  • Oversee all company financial transactions and accounts, including banking, credit cards, vendors, and subcontractors
  • Manage Accounts Receivable, ensuring construction income invoices are accurate based on the Schedule of Values from Project Managers
  • Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial updates
  • Execute monthly, quarterly, and annual account and receipt reconciliations

 

Analysis & Communication

  • Deliver financial updates to executives and project teams with confidence, clarity and actionable insights
  • Explain financial data, budgets, and forecasts in a way that non-financial stakeholders can easily understand
  • Prepare clear reports on project profitability, cash flow, and risk
  • Communicates issues early—before they become problems

 

Detail Orientation

  • Verify coding accuracy across jobs, phases, and cost types to prevent downstream WIP or billing errors.
  • Cross‑check data from multiple sources (PM notes, contracts, POs, field reports) to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Investigate discrepancies proactively and resolve them before they impact billing, payroll, or project reporting.
  • Balance speed and accuracy, knowing when a detail is critical and when a practical solution is more effective.
  • Maintain organized documentation and audit ready‑ records to support transparency and accountability.

Job Requirements:

  • 5–7 years of accounting experience, including 3–5 years in construction accounting
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Business (CPA preferred, not required)
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online; Procore preferred
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, reconciliations)
  • Experience supporting multiple active jobs and partnering with Project Managers/field teams
  • Proven ability to prepare WIP schedules, job cost reports, and progress billings
  • Experience with certified payroll, prevailing wage, or multi‑state payroll
  • Skilled in AIA billing, retainage, and contract compliance
  • Familiarity with insurance audits, bonding requirements, and bank reporting
  • Prior experience in a private construction company ($20MM–$100MM range ideal)
  • Comfortable working in a lean team and owning multiple accounting processes
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain audit ready‑ documentation
  • Able to manage month end close, job cost accuracy, and cash‑ flow critical‑ billing
