Summary of Position
The Drywall Mechanic is responsible for measuring, cutting, and installing drywall while maintaining a clean work area.  
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintains a clean work area and protects structures or surfaces near work areas to avoid damage.
  • Reading design plans and/or Blueprints in order to provide minimal wallboard to avoid unnecessary waste of materials
  • Measuring and marking cutting lines on framing, drywall, and trim using tape measure, straightedge, or square, and marking devices
  • Identifying the exact locations of windows, electrical outlets, and plumbing, and then cutting the drywall or ceiling tile to fit the precise size needed
  • Cutting drywall to the right size, using utility knives and power saws
  • Fastening drywall panels to interior wall studs, using nails or screws
  • Filling joints, holes, and cracks with compound, using a trowel and broad knife
  • Trimming and smoothing rough edges so boards join evenly without visual defect
  • Mixing compound to desired consistency
  • Cleaning and preparing surfaces for applications of materials, such as by drywall taping.
  • At times may work with metal studs.
  • Assembles and installs metal framing and decorative trim for windows, doorways, and vents as needed.
  • Installs horizontal and vertical metal or studs for attachment of wallboard on interior walls, using hand tools as needed.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma GED (preferred)
  • 3+ years of drywall experience (required)
