This role is focused primarily on HVAC and sheet metal estimating and will work closely with the Estimating Manager, vendors, subcontractors, and operations team to help develop accurate, competitive bids and support successful project turnover.

Position Summary

 

The Senior Mechanical Estimator is responsible for reviewing project bid documents, preparing detailed labor and material takeoffs, and developing accurate estimates for commercial HVAC and sheet metal systems. This position plays an important role in the preconstruction process and works in coordination with the Estimating Manager and operations team to support successful project pursuits and transitions into the field.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Review and understand project drawings, specifications, and other bid documents
  • Prepare accurate labor and material takeoffs for commercial HVAC and sheet metal systems
  • Solicit, review, and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations
  • Assist in the development of complete and competitive project estimates
  • Participate in pre bid meetings and site visits as needed
  • Support value-based solutions and practical cost saving ideas when appropriate
  • Maintain positive working relationships with engineers, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams
  • Collaborate with operations during project handoff to help support a smooth transition from estimating to execution
  • Stay current on applicable codes, materials, and industry practices

 

What we are looking for

  • Five or more years of experience in estimating HVAC, sheet metal, or mechanical construction projects
  • Strong understanding of commercial HVAC systems and sheet metal work
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents, including plans, specifications, and related technical information
  • Experience preparing detailed labor and material takeoffs
  • Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software such as Trimble AutoBid or similar platforms
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and Adobe
  • Strong math, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Experience with industrial, healthcare, institutional, or other large commercial projects
  • Exposure to hydronic piping or broader mechanical systems estimating
  • Experience in design build or design assist environments
  • Background in mechanical contracting or related construction environments
  • Familiarity with local and national building codes
