Flatland Excavating is hiring an Estimator who can turn plans and specs into accurate, competitive bids that set our projects up for success. You’ll play a key role in shaping what work we win—and how profitable it is. If you enjoy solving problems, thinking strategically, and putting together the full picture before a project ever starts—this role is for you.


What You’ll Do

You won’t just “crunch numbers”—you’ll help drive smart decisions.

  • Turn plans and specs into detailed quantity takeoffs
  • Catch scope gaps, risks, and costly oversights before they happen
  • Build accurate cost estimates for labor, materials, and equipment
  • Work closely with Operations to make sure estimates match real-world execution
  • Help shape bid strategy on competitive, public projects
  • Track market trends and competitor behavior to stay sharp
  • Deliver complete, on-time, and compliant bid packages
  • Set projects up for success with clear handoff documentation

What You Bring

  • 3+ years of construction estimating experience
  • Experience in public bidding environments (low-bid, DOT, municipal, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of construction methods and sequencing
  • Ability to read plans, specs, and technical reports with confidence
  • Proficiency with estimating software and Excel
  • High attention to detail—you don’t miss things others do

Bonus Points If You Have

  • DOT or infrastructure project experience
  • Strong knowledge of subcontractor and supplier markets
  • Experience with job costing or post-project analysis

What You Get

Competitive Pay

  • $75,000 – $125,000 per year (based on experience)
