Flatland Excavating is hiring an Estimator who can turn plans and specs into accurate, competitive bids that set our projects up for success. You’ll play a key role in shaping what work we win—and how profitable it is. If you enjoy solving problems, thinking strategically, and putting together the full picture before a project ever starts—this role is for you.
What You’ll Do
You won’t just “crunch numbers”—you’ll help drive smart decisions.
- Turn plans and specs into detailed quantity takeoffs
- Catch scope gaps, risks, and costly oversights before they happen
- Build accurate cost estimates for labor, materials, and equipment
- Work closely with Operations to make sure estimates match real-world execution
- Help shape bid strategy on competitive, public projects
- Track market trends and competitor behavior to stay sharp
- Deliver complete, on-time, and compliant bid packages
- Set projects up for success with clear handoff documentation
What You Bring
- 3+ years of construction estimating experience
- Experience in public bidding environments (low-bid, DOT, municipal, etc.)
- Strong understanding of construction methods and sequencing
- Ability to read plans, specs, and technical reports with confidence
- Proficiency with estimating software and Excel
- High attention to detail—you don’t miss things others do
Bonus Points If You Have
- DOT or infrastructure project experience
- Strong knowledge of subcontractor and supplier markets
- Experience with job costing or post-project analysis
What You Get

- $75,000 – $125,000 per year (based on experience)
