Position Summary
The Senior Safety Manager will be responsible for overseeing other field safety personnel and is responsible for driving the Lexicon overall safety culture, compliance, and performance across a large-scale job site. This leadership role focuses on mentoring safety staff, enforcing site-specific safety plans, and ensuring that all subcontractor activities meet federal, state, and company regulations. This position is deemed ‘safety sensitive’ due to the fact that a person improperly performing the essential or marginal functions of the job would constitute a threat to the health or safety of the employee, the employee’s co-workers, and/or the public at large.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Mentor, coach, and oversee field safety personnel to ensure consistency in audits, training, and documentation.
  • Coordinate and lead construction safety planning and training, reviewing Site-Specific Safety Programs (SSSPs) and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) before work begins.
  • Conduct high-level site audits and random safety observations, while ensuring that safety personnel properly document deficiencies and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Lead investigation teams for major incidents or near-misses, conducting root cause analysis and 5 Why analysis to develop preventive measures and documentation for insurance/legal purposes.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of OSHA standards (such as 1926) to ensure strict adherence to all regulations, serving as the point of contact for site safety issues/incidents.
  • Review daily safety audits and observations, safety logs and produce high-level weekly/monthly safety reports for management, tracking leading/lagging KPIs (e.g., TRIR/DART) to improve safety performance on site.
  • Develop, implement, and update site-specific training, site-specific contingency and emergency action plans.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health preferred, with minimum 8 years of Construction Safety Management experience, including work in highrisk environments and prior supervisory responsibility.
  • Professional certifications such as CHST, OHST, MSP, CSD, or CSHO preferred, ideally supported by minimum 10 years of Construction Safety Management experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations (OSHA 30 or OSHA 500), Adult First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor credentials, and proficiency with safety and construction management platforms (e.g., Procore, Autodesk, KPA).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and influence teams, with strong communication and conflictresolution skills for managing diverse crews and subcontractors.
  • Ability to travel up to 100% as required by project needs.

Physical Demands

Overtime, weekend work, odd hours, and overnight travel as required. Ability to climb stairs, ladders, ironwork and scaffolding to heights <200 feet.  Ability to walk in excess of five miles per day.  Must be able to lift, push, and pull 100 pounds occasionally and carry 25 pounds frequently.  Must be able to tolerate temperature fluctuations and a dusty, loud environment.  Must be able to be around high voltage electromagnetic fields.  Must be able to respond to emergency situations and medical trauma in a calm, controlled manner.
