Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced BIM/VDC Modeler with a strong plumbing trade background and proven expertise in Revit‑based modeling to join our mechanical contracting team. This role will support commercial projects by developing accurate, constructible BIM models and fabrication spool drawings for plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical piping systems.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned modeler who understands how systems are built in the field, can work collaboratively with project teams, and can help elevate our BIM standards while mentoring less‑experienced modelers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain detailed BIM models for plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical piping systems using Revit
  • Model systems in accordance with contract documents, specifications, and company standards
  • Produce fabrication‑ready spool drawings for prefabrication and field installation
  • Perform clash detection and coordination using Navisworks
  • Utilize SysQue (or similar) for content, hanger placement, and spooling workflows
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, foremen, and fabrication teams to ensure constructability
  • Participate in BIM coordination meetings with other trades and design teams
  • Identify design conflicts, missing information, and constructability issues and communicate solutions
  • Support the development and improvement of BIM/VDC workflows and standards
  • Assist in mentoring and training current BIM/modeling staff as needed

 

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of BIM/VDC modeling experience in commercial construction
  • Strong plumbing trade experience (field background highly valued)
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit for plumbing and mechanical system modeling
  • Working experience with Navisworks for clash detection and coordination
  • Experience producing spool drawings for prefabrication
  • Solid understanding of commercial plumbing systems and codes
  • Ability to interpret construction documents, schedules, and specifications
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of an integrated project team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience modeling mechanical piping systems (hydronic, process, or industrial piping)
  • Proficiency with SysQue (or equivalent add‑ins)
  • Prior experience working for a commercial mechanical contractor
  • Field experience as a plumber, pipefitter, or mechanical installer
  • Familiarity with fabrication shop workflows and prefabrication strategies
  • Experience mentoring or training BIM/modeling staff
