Position Summary
The Equipment Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating heavy equipment to support field operations and meet production goals. This role works directly with Foremen, Site Superintendents, and Operations to execute work according to plan, maintain equipment, and support accurate field reporting. Operators play a key role in jobsite performance by contributing to production, protecting equipment, and ensuring work is completed safely and within scope. This position requires strong awareness, communication, and accountability to support both daily execution and overall project success.
Key Responsibilities
● Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently (excavators, dozers, skid steers, loaders, etc.)
● Follow direction from Foreman regarding scope, sequencing, and daily production goals
● Perform daily equipment inspections (fluids, safety systems, attachments, general condition)
● Monitor equipment performance and report maintenance issues immediately
● Maintain consistent production while minimizing rework and inefficiencies
● Maintain awareness of surroundings, including personnel, utilities, and hazards
● Communicate delays, downtime, or jobsite issues to Foreman or Site Superintendent
● Support accurate field reporting by providing equipment hours, production updates, and downtime reasons
● Identify and report out-of-scope work or changing site conditions
● Keep equipment clean, properly maintained, and secured at the end of each day
● Work collaboratively with crew members to maintain jobsite efficiency and workflow
● Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements
Qualifications
● Experience operating heavy equipment preferred
● Ability to work in outdoor construction environments and varying conditions
● Basic understanding of construction processes and jobsite safety
● Strong communication and teamwork skills
● Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
● Ability to follow direction and adapt to changing conditions
Preferred
● Experience in excavation, grading, or utility work
● Familiarity with trenching and underground operations
● Ability to operate multiple types of equipment
● Basic mechanical knowledge for troubleshooting equipment issues
