Position Description:

McAninch Corporation is searching for an Estimator/Project Manager with experience in civil, underground utilities, and/or earthwork. Our Estimator/Project Managers oversee aspects of overall planning and management for various types of construction projects including Heavy Highway (IDOT Projects), Commercial and Residential. Duties include estimating, oversight and accountability for project safety, pre-planning, procurement, scheduling, cost management, contract administration, quality control, customer service, and close out. Estimator/Project Managers must display effective communication with the entire project team and customers and ensure compliance with all policies and quality standards.

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture; ensuring crews follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Prepare accurate quantity takeoffs, budgets, and cost estimates for negotiated and competitively bid projects.
  • Develop bid packages; solicit and review subcontractor and supplier pricing; and make award recommendations.
  • Maintain professional communication with customers, subcontractors, owners, and general contractors while fostering strong working relationships.
  • Coordinate with Director of Field Operations and Superintendents on scheduling, scope changes, and completion dates to meet customer expectations, project scopes, and profitability goals.
  • Support project startup activities, including pre-planning, scheduling, procurement, and coordination of production crews.
  • Maintain accountability for project safety, quality control, schedules, change orders, and cost.
  • Manage change orders and escalate to the Vice President as necessary.
  • Track and maintain budgets using cost-to-complete procedures and monthly financial reporting. 
  • Conduct regular job site visits to coordinate with field crews, resolve issues, verify quality workmanship, and monitor safety compliance.
  • Review and approve subcontractor and material invoices in Viewpoint to ensure accurate and timely payment.
  • Order bonds when required and ensure all closeout requirements are met.
  • Perform other administrative duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • 2 or more years experience in construction estimating or project management required with a degree. 5 or more years of related experience may supplement a degree.
  • Experience with Viewpoint Construction Software, MS Project, Agtek, AutoCAD, or BlueBeam REVU preferred.
  • Able to demonstrate a high level of attention to detail.
  • Must have outstanding customer service skills and professional demeanor.
  • Must have effective time management skills and be able to work independently.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Office 365 Suite, including Outlook, Excel, and Word, required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must be able to travel overnight when necessary (typically less than 20%).
  • Must be available for project-related phone calls on weekends and evenings. Extended work hours may be required to meet bid deadlines (typically less than 10%).

Physical Requirements:

    • Primarily sedentary work, requiring the ability to sit for extended periods of time.
    • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, data entry, and operating office equipment.
    • Occasional standing, walking, bending, and reaching within an office environment.
    • Ability to occasionally work outdoors and stand/walk on uneven terrain.
    • Ability to lift and carry light objects, typically up to 10 lbs.
