Job Summary
NEBCO is looking for a Plant Operations and Maintenance Supervisor to provide oversight of 30+ plants and is responsible for the overall maintenance, repair, and operational support of all concrete and asphalt plant activities. This role places a strong emphasis on safety, product quality, uptime, and production efficiency, while striving to achieve the lowest possible unit cost per yard/ton. This individual works closely with plant operators, coordinates daily and long-term maintenance activities, and leads a team of plant mechanics to ensure reliable, compliant, and efficient plant operations across multiple locations in Eastern Nebraska and surrounding areas. Must abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.
Champions a strong safety-first culture across all plant locations, promoting and ensuring compliance with OSHA, MSHA (if applicable), environmental, and company safety standards.
Conducts safety audits, incident investigations, and corrective actions.
Trains plant personnel and mechanics on safe work practices and equipment operation.
Directs, plans, and oversees preventive and corrective maintenance for concrete and asphalt plants.
Ensures timely repair of plant equipment to minimize downtime and production loss.
Develops and manages preventive maintenance schedules and inspection programs.
Works with plant operators to identify mechanical issues and implement permanent solutions.
Supports troubleshooting of quality-related issues in coordination with plant operators and QC personnel.
Promotes best practices to maintain consistency and reliability in production.
Supports plant operations to optimize production rates, plant uptime, and efficiency; ensures plants consistently meet quality standards and mix specifications.
Monitors maintenance-related costs and drive initiatives to reduce cost per yard/ton.
Assists in budgeting for maintenance labor, parts, and capital improvements.
Evaluates equipment performance and recommend upgrades or replacements as needed.
Leads, coaches, and develops a team of plant mechanics and maintenance personnel; assigns work, set priorities, and hold teams accountable for performance and safety; participates in hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
Serves as a key liaison between plant operators, mechanics, management, and vendors.
Fosters collaboration between maintenance and plant operations teams.
Provides regular reports on plant condition, downtime, safety incidents, and maintenance performance.
Coordinates with vendors and contractors for specialized repairs and services.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
- Degree or certification from a technical/trade school in mechanics, electric systems, or industrial maintenance; and
- 5 years of experience in concrete and/or asphalt maintenance or operations; or
- equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Valid Driver’s License required, CDL license is preferred
- MSHA Training Certification helpful, but not required
Other Qualifications:
- Strong working knowledge of concrete and asphalt plant equipment, mechanical systems, and electrical/hydraulic components.
- Solid understanding of plant safety regulations and environmental compliance.
- Proven leadership experience supervising maintenance personnel.
- Experience managing maintenance budgets and cost controls.
- Familiarity with preventative maintenance software or CMMS systems.
- Proven track record of increasing responsibility and results in production, maintenance, process and quality.
- Must be able to travel between plant locations throughout Southeast Nebraska and one plant in Kansas as required.

- Must be trainable and have a good overall technical knowledge of plant operations, safety, training, environmental compliance, equipment and construction projects.
- Must be able to work independently with a high degree of detail ability.

- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
