The Yates Company, LLC is currently seeking a BAS Controls Technician to be responsible for the successful installation, startup, commissioning, and closeout of Carrier i-Vu Building Automation Systems on assigned construction and retrofit projects.  This role serves as the technical lead in the field for controls execution and ensures systems are delivered in accordance with contract documents, design intent, and owner expectations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Project Execution & System Startup

  • Install, configure, and commission Carrier i-Vu BAS hardware and software on new construction and retrofit projects.
  • Perform controller setup, network configuration, device addressing, and firmware management.
  • Execute system startup activities including sensor calibration, device checkout, and functional testing.
  • Complete point-to-point verification and confirm all field devices operate per design and control intent.

Programming & Integration

  • Develop, modify, and validate control logic and sequences of operation in Carrier i-Vu.
  • Integrate BAS with mechanical systems such as AHUs, RTUs, chillers, boilers, pumps, VFDs, and terminal units.
  • Support integration with third-party systems and protocols where required (e.g., BACnet/IP, MS/TP).
  • Troubleshoot programming, communication, and operational issues through startup and occupancy.

Coordination & Communication

  • Coordinate field activities with Project Manager, low-voltage installers, electricians, mechanical contractors, and other trades.
  • Communicate technical constraints, schedule impacts, and field conditions clearly and proactively.
  • Participate in jobsite meetings, startup planning, and commissioning reviews as required.
  • Serve as the primary BAS technical resource during startup, commissioning, and owner acceptance.

Documentation & Closeout

  • Maintain accurate field documentation including as-built drawings, device lists, and point schedules.
  • Assist with development and completion of commissioning checklists and startup reports.
  • Support project closeout documentation including O&M manuals, graphics verification, and backups.
  • Ensure system readiness for inspections, functional performance testing, and owner training.

Customer Support & Training

  • Support owner demonstrations, system walk-throughs, and operator training sessions.
  • Assist in resolving punch list items and post-startup adjustments.
  • Provide professional, solutions-oriented interaction with customers and facility staff.

 Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience in BAS controls installation, startup, and commissioning.
  • Understanding of HVAC mechanical systems and control strategies.
  • Ability to read and interpret control drawings, sequences of operation, and specifications.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting BAS hardware, software, and communication networks.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to documentation and detail.
  • Ability to work independently in the field while maintaining alignment with project goals.
  • Professional communication skills with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with construction project workflows and commissioning processes.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong working knowledge of Carrier i-Vu Building Automation Systems; Experience with Carrier i-Vu strongly preferred; equivalent BAS platforms considered.
  • Technical certifications or manufacturer training.

Working Environment

Work is performed in primarily commercial, industrial, institutional buildings, or other construction areas including outdoors environments with constant exposure to noise, dust, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, metal shavings, moving objects, sharp edges, and temperature extremes.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent and repeated hand and arm movement to manipulate tools and related objects.
  • Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds individually, and team lifting heavier items.
  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Frequent climbing of steps, ladders, and in/out/onto vehicles.
  • Regularly bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, reaching, and crouching.
  • Visual acuity to drive motor vehicles.
  • Hearing capacity to receive, perceive, and reach to common driving and working environment noises.
