Location: Rochester, NY

Employment Type: Full-Time, Salaried

Compensation: 120,000  - 145,000/yr. + bonus

Travel: Yes, 25% (All domestic, will include overnight travel.  Travel required for project support, testing, commissioning)

Manages Others: No (technical leadership role)

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline preferred; equivalent experience considered

Requirements:  Strong background with Siemens PLC Simatic/TIA Portal

About This Opportunity

Adaptec Solutions is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to join our Warehouse Automation Engineering team in Rochester, NY. This role focuses on the architecture, integration, and commissioning of large-scale material handling and distribution automation systems, where system-level PLC design, safety, diagnostics, and uptime are critical. Strong Siemens PLC (Simatic / TIA Portal) experience is required.

What You’ll Do

  • Architect and design system-level control solutions for large-scale warehouse automation systems
  • Define PLC architecture, diagnostics strategies, and safety approaches
  • Integrate conveyors, AS/RS, sortation, AGVs/AMRs, networks, drives, and safety devices
  • Establish commissioning strategies and readiness criteria
  • Resolve escalated technical issues during integration and startup
  • Drive controls standards adoption and code reviews
  • Support estimation, technical risk assessment, and project planning
  • Guide vendor and technology selection with a Siemens PLC focus
  • Mentor and coach other controls engineers

What You Bring

  • 7–10+ years of controls engineering experience on complex multi-controller systems
  • Strong hands-on Siemens PLC (Simatic / TIA Portal) experience – required
  • Experience designing system-level control architectures and safety logic
  • Deep understanding of industrial networks and motion systems
  • Commissioning, FAT/SAT, and onsite startup experience
  • Ability to lead technically without direct people management
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel to customer sites

Work Environment

Office, lab, and industrial production environments. PPE may be required when working near operating equipment. Periodic travel required for build, test, and commissioning support.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the wage range for this role is $120,000 – 145,000. The rate range provided is a general guideline.
