Job Description
We are seeking experienced Substation Journeyman Tech to join our construction team. This position involves hands-on work with high-voltage systems, supporting construction, upgrades, and maintenance projects while ensuring safety, quality, and reliability of critical power infrastructure. As part of the day-to-day responsibilities, you will be completing the following:
- Install, maintain, and repair substation equipment and systems
- Assist with construction of new substations and upgrades
- Interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project plans.
- Work on and around:
- Structural steel (equipment supports, bus structures)
- Foundations and grounding systems
- Conduit, cable trench, and duct bank systems
- Bus work and rigid/flexible bus installation
- Equipment setting (transformers, breakers, switches, control cabinets)
- Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and energized work protocols
- Conduct pre-job briefings and adhere to all safety standards
- Identify and report hazards, defects, or installation issues
- Work closely with foremen, engineers, and other crew members
Qualifications
- Minimum 3-7+ years of substation construction experience.
- Journeyman-level experience in electrical construction or utilities
- Strong knowledge of:
- Substation equipment and systems
- Electrical installation practices and safety procedures
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
- Working knowledge of construction safety standards.
- Ability to operate construction equipment as needed.
- Valid driver’s license
- Own your own hand tools
- Must be able to learn from On-the-Job training and work well with others
