The Senior Account Executive, Public Relations will contribute to the success of three or more accounts with the core responsibilities for supporting and executing project-based and year-long public relations programs on assigned accounts. Under the guidance of the Account Director or Account Supervisor, Public Relations, the Sr. Account Executive, Public Relations will support and work alongside internal teams, media, and influencers to deliver coverage and results that are on strategy, on time, and on budget. Successful candidates are strong writers, strategic and media relations savvy individuals with demonstrated experience in crafting attention-grabbing pitches, masterfully translating a client’s message, and keeping an obsessive pulse on the editorial and industry landscape on behalf of their clients/brands.
The following is a summary of the specific areas of responsibility and the expected skill set of a Senior Account Executive, PR team member.
Overall Client Leadership
Business Development
- In partnership with Account Supervisor and/or Account Director, supports organic growth efforts of assigned accounts.
Fiscal
- Assist in budget tracking for public relations campaigns, which includes recommending paid editorial opportunities, influencer programs, and other communications programming.
- Manages hour allocation closely to keep budgets on track
- Work alongside account management and accounting teams to support billing, budget reconciliation and the like
Project Management
- Manages client project initiatives from start to finish with limited/minimal oversight. Gains necessary internal/client approvals and keeps client and account team informed of pertinent updates.
- Owns project management timelines, internal communications, and status meetings. Manages day-to-day process on assigned accounts by identifying, communicating, and confirming deliverables.
- Establishes effective relationships with key media contacts across national, regional, local and industry-specific outlets
- Interfaces and develops a rapport with consumer, lifestyle, CPG and travel clients, internal team members and vendors
- Drafts a range of written materials – such as media pitches, award submissions, briefing sheets, client-ready content, etc.
- Helps coordinate special events (e.g., briefings at large trade shows, desk sides in key media markets, product launches, etc.)
- Experience in influencer marketing a huge plus
- Actively participates in team and client meetings in addition to available training programs
- Proactively finds ways to advance both teams and clients
- Assists the team on executing campaigns and with various projects such as plans, research, media relations activities and more
- Works with director supervisor to set goals and build skills
- Serves as a mentor to AAE’s and interns
- Completes work product, timesheets, and reports accurately
- Contributes and supports 6-7 accounts (on average)
Training/Supervision/Agency Performance
- Mentors interns, AEs and AAEs as needed on developing public relations skillset, including pitch writing, media outreach, material development and channel best practices
- Contributes to internal team members’ performance evaluation upon request.
Required Skills/Experience /Competencies
- 6+ years agency or comparable business/client-side experience with strong grasp of all facets of public relations/communications.
- Experience successfully supporting PR campaigns with demonstrated results is required – including but not limited to pitch writing, press release development, tracking and reporting, media training, media outreach, media list building and editorial calendar and messaging development.
- Experience working with ideating and managing influencer campaigns, brand partnerships and experiential events a plus
- Experience with public relations software (such as Cision, Meltwater, MuckRack, Klear, Upfluence) is a must.
- Experience in executing crisis and issues management efforts is preferred.
- Proven track record of partnering with internal and external teams to develop public relations campaigns and generate quality and accurate media coverage.
- Passion for public relations trends and emerging communications best practices
- Proven success as a project manager; has experience balancing multiple initiatives, clients, deadlines, and teams.
- High sense of urgency and an innate sense of curiosity about problem-solving and learning
- Previous experience managing budgets, preferred
- Exemplary organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail. Ability to pivot/course correct without becoming overwhelmed
- Projects confidence and composure in front of clients and large internal teams, demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills
