Position Summary:  E.S. Wagner Co., LLC is seeking a Director of Business Development to support continued growth in our private commercial and industrial heavy civil work, while also supporting select public-sector opportunities. This role is primarily focused on building and maintaining relationships with private owners, developers, and key decision-makers, identifying early project opportunities, and supporting pursuit efforts from initial lead through award. The Business Development Manager will work closely with Operations, Estimating, Marketing, and executive leadership. Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with private owners, developers, and industry partners
  • Identify and track upcoming private-sector heavy civil opportunities
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for targeted private clients
  • Support pursuit efforts, teaming strategies, and interview participation
  • Collaborate with estimating, operations, and marketing to align pursuit strategy and messaging
  • Support select public-sector and alternative delivery pursuits as needed
  • Represent the company at industry events, meetings, and networking functions
  • Maintain opportunity pipelines, CRM data, and pursuit tracking
  • Provide regular updates and market intelligence to leadership

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Construction Management, Engineering, Marketing, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to manage multiple opportunities and priorities
  • Understanding of construction markets and project delivery methods

    Preferred

  • 3–7 years of business development, preconstruction, or construction-related experience
  • Experience working with private owners or developers
  • Familiarity with heavy civil, industrial, or infrastructure markets
  • Comfort participating in client meetings and presentations
