The Conservator Representative serves as a surrogate decision-maker and advocate for individuals placed under court-ordered conservatorship. Their primary responsibility is to uphold the rights, safety, and well-being of those they support, while adhering to the scope of authority granted by the court. They are expected to act in the best interests of the individual, ensuring person-centered practices that promote self-esteem, independence, and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities Overview:

  1. Understand Court Orders: Review and follow the legal directives outlining the representative’s responsibilities.

  2. Execute Court-Mandated Authority: Make decisions only in areas where the court has removed rights from the individual.

  3. Court Participation: Attend court hearings and act as a representative for the organization.

  4. Act in Best Interest: Avoid conflicts of interest and ensure decisions benefit the individual.

  5. Monitor Finances: Safeguard against financial exploitation of the individual’s funds.

  6. Collaborative Problem Solving: Work with the individual and their support circle to achieve goals and address needs.

  7. Reporting: Complete legally required reports and annual status updates for the court.

  8. Interagency Collaboration: Attend planning and support meetings with DIDD and other service teams.

  9. Communication & Accessibility: Be consistently available and include individuals in decisions when appropriate.

  10. Monthly Visits & Documentation: Meet with each individual monthly and maintain thorough records.

  11. Legal Knowledge: Stay informed on Tennessee conservatorship laws.

  12. Ongoing Training: Complete required training to fulfill fiduciary and legal responsibilities.

  13. Emergency System Support: Help maintain and document the 24/7 emergency contact system.

  14. Documentation: Accurately record and submit monthly interactions in a timely manner.

  15. Other Duties: Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be a high school graduate.
  • Must have one year of relevant work experience in a related field.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Possess and maintain access to phone and internet service.
  • Must be able to pass intensive background screening.
