The AV Service Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and supporting installed audiovisual systems in commercial environments. This role ensures AV systems are fully operational, properly configured, and performing at a high level to meet client expectations. The position requires strong technical skills, problem-solving ability, and professionalism when working in customer-facing environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with AV systems including displays, projectors, sound systems, control systems, and video conferencing equipment
- Perform service calls to repair, replace, and configure AV components at customer sites
- Test system functionality and verify proper operation after service or repair work
- Provide preventative maintenance on installed AV systems to reduce downtime and improve performance
- Work with control systems such as Crestron, Extron, AMX, QSC, or similar platforms
- Interpret AV drawings, wiring diagrams, and system documentation for troubleshooting and repairs
- Document service activities, including issues found, work performed, and resolution steps
- Coordinate with project teams, programmers, and engineers to resolve complex system issues
- Provide on-site client support and communicate technical information in a clear, professional manner
- Assist with minor system modifications, upgrades, and reconfigurations as needed
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in compliance with company and site safety standards
- Maintain service tools, test equipment, and company vehicle (if assigned)
Qualifications
- 2–5+ years of experience in AV installation, service, or low-voltage systems preferred
- Strong understanding of commercial AV systems and signal flow
- Experience with AV control systems (Crestron, Extron, AMX, QSC preferred)
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and manage service calls efficiently
- Valid driver’s license required with clean driving record
- Ability to travel locally between job sites as needed
Work Environment
- Work performed in commercial office buildings, schools, healthcare facilities, and other client sites
- May require occasional after-hours or emergency service calls
- Exposure to active job sites and occupied facilities
