Title: Member Relations Specialist

Location: Brookings, SD

Status: Full-Time • Exempt • Benefits Eligible
Work Schedule: Primarily 8am–5pm, with occasional evening and weekend involvement

Reports to: Director of Sales and Marketing 

Salary: $50,000–$60,000 depending on experience, plus annual performance incentive

The Member Relations Specialist serves as a trusted resource for local businesses, helping members maximize the value of their investment in the Brookings Regional Growth Alliance while building lasting relationships that strengthen our business community. This role combines customer service, relationship management, and business development to support member success, attract new members, strengthen retention, and grow sponsorship opportunities.

What You’ll Do

Build Strong Member Relationships

  • Serve as a trusted point of contact for members, sponsors, and business partners.
  • Help businesses connect with programs, events, networking opportunities, and resources that provide value.
  • Conduct regular outreach to understand member needs and strengthen engagement.
  • Respond promptly to member questions and resolve concerns with professionalism.

Grow Membership & Community Partnerships

  • Build relationships with prospective members and sponsors.
  • Communicate the value of Growth Alliance membership and sponsorship opportunities.
  • Encourage membership growth, renewals, sponsorship participation, and increased member investment.
  • Represent the organization at community events and networking activities.

Support Organizational Success

  • Maintain accurate membership information in the CRM.
  • Track outreach, engagement, and membership activity.
  • Collaborate with teammates on events and member initiatives.
  • Assist in achieving annual membership, retention, and organizational goals.

What We Are Looking For  

  • Associate's degree, bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • Experience in customer service, account management, business development, membership organizations, fundraising, sales, or a related field.
  • A genuine passion for building relationships and helping businesses succeed.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish trust and credibility.  
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and follow through on commitments.
  • Comfortable initiating conversations, networking, and developing new business relationships.
  • Experience using a CRM or membership management system is helpful.
  • Familiarity with the Brookings business community, chambers of commerce, nonprofits, or economic development organizations a plus.
