Compensation: $62.87 per hour (FLSA non-exempt) consistent with the current UA Local 290 Journeyman wage scale. In addition to hourly wages, employees receive employer-paid fringe benefit contributions through the union benefit programs. Wage rates are established by the applicable collective bargaining agreement and are subject to negotiated changes.
Here’s a deeper dive into your responsibilities:
Controls Programming & System Development
- Generate controller logic from Sequences of Operation (SOOs), approved submittals, and project documentation.
- Develop graphics packages for building automation systems using approved project documents.
- Configure, program, and preload controllers prior to field installation.
- Support project teams by assisting with controls submittals and technical documentation.
Commissioning & Field Support
- Perform field work related to HVAC controls and building automation systems.
- Support system startup, point mapping, tuning, commissioning, and project closeout activities.
- Verify system operation and assist with optimization of control sequences and equipment performance.
- Provide field support to technicians and project teams during installation and commissioning.
Troubleshooting & Technical Assistance
- Troubleshoot controls, communication, and BAS-related issues both remotely and onsite.
- Support field technicians with technical problem-solving and issue resolution.
- Assist in identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Support customers and internal teams to ensure reliable system performance.
Project Execution & Collaboration
- Support project delivery schedules and departmental production goals.
- Interpret and review sequences of operation, mechanical drawings, controls drawings, and project submittals.
- Coordinate with project managers, account managers, service personnel, and customers.
- Maintain proactive and positive working relationships with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and internal support teams.
- Follow and promote company safety and quality standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support business needs.
What You Bring
Experience
- Experience working with HVAC controls, building automation systems, or related controls technologies.
- Experience creating controller logic and graphics packages.
- Experience commissioning, startup, tuning, and troubleshooting control systems.
- Experience supporting both project execution and field operations.
- Familiarity with BAS communication networks and control system architectures.
Education
- Technical degree, apprenticeship training, industry certifications, or equivalent industry experience in HVAC Controls, Building Automation Systems, Electrical Systems, or a related field preferred.
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems and mechanical sequences of operation.
- Ability to read and interpret SOOs, submittals, mechanical drawings, and control drawings.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with managed switches, BAS communication networks, and networking fundamentals.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Physical Requirements:
This position requires the ability to work in both office and field environments. Candidates must be able to sit for extended periods while performing programming, documentation, and computer-based work. The role also requires standing, walking, climbing ladders and stairs, working in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and construction environments, and occasionally kneeling, crouching, crawling, and working in confined spaces. Candidates must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds and utilize various tools, instruments, and testing equipment. The ability to communicate effectively, read technical documentation, and comply with all safety requirements, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), is essential.
